‘Parlay’ Turns Trump Rant

The Daily Post has the Daily Prompt of ‘parlay‘ today.

I do not think it means what I think it means.

I think it means… to use as leverage or collateral… as in: “I parlayed my B.A. in English into a career teaching English as a Second Language abroad.” – or – “Through a lucky run of sevens and elevens, he managed to parlay his initial five buck grubstake into a crisp fifty dollar bill.”

I’d better look it up.

Parlay

  1. turn an initial stake or winnings from a previous bet into (a greater amount) by gambling.
“it involved parlaying a small bankroll into big winnings”

    a :  to exploit successfully

He hoped to parlay his basketball skills into a college scholarship.

b :  to increase or otherwise transform into something of much greater value

She parlayed $5,000 and years of hard work into a multimillion-dollar company.

Hey, what do you know, i was right.

“To exploit successfully” is especially interesting to me b/c it entails a certain nefarious element. Opportunism at the very least. Rakish behavior. Not to say knavish.

Taking advantage of others’ weaknesses is business as usual in most circles.

I feel so ripped off getting stuck with Trump. Genuinely concerned about all the aggressive action he’s been taking. He may be able to deliver some timelier lines in a speech than on twitter, like I want focus on civil liberties yeah but can I even subject my sensibility to this guy’s toxicity long enough for him to get to the next topic? No. No, I cannot. It is distasteful to me, paying attention to him. Potentially detrimental to my mental health.

So I shut off the speech. And I feel ripped off. Imagining what Bernie would be bent on doing had he the Oval, or what Hillsnoy would be up to by now. Both at least bearable. But not this. Help! It is insufferable.

The extent to which Trump is parlaying the holy hell out of everything with which he comes into contact at all times is inarguable. He is a closer, always winning.
